17. What does nicotine do to the blood vessels?
Nicotine constricts blood vessels, which cuts down on circulation. Niotine contributes to plaque buildup in the blood vessels which leads to hardened arteries, a condition called arteriosclerosis. Arteries become clogged, increasing the risk of a heart attack and stroke. [W.B. 4th]
Nicotine hardens arteries and blood vessels (called arteriosclerosis)
[E.O 8th EXTRA]
Nicotine causes the nervous system to release adrenaline into the blood. When the amount of adrenaline increases in the blood, it causes the heart to beat faster, and causes the blood vessels to constrict (to become more narrow), and the breathing rate to increase. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels directly too. Constricted blood vessels create a large resistance for the heart to pump against. Nicotine also constricts the blood vessels in the heart and can promote heart attacks.

30. What did you learn from our guest speakers Art Barnes, Catherine Brance, and Officer Elwonger?
I Learned:
- You should make up your mind befor you go to high school about what you are going to do, drink, or not drink. Have and idea of what you are going to say to someone if they ask you to drink or do drugs. If you don't, it will be alot harder to say no to someone's face right there on the spot.
- People look up to you if you don't drink.
- Nobody makes you drink like how they do in the movies, for example: shoving a funnel to your mouth and making you drink.
[C.S. 5th Period]
I learned that you will not get made fun of in high school for not drinking and/or not doing drugs.
[E.W. 5th period EXTRA]
I learned that if the barbie doll was 5 11" she would weigh 104 lbs.! And The story of the police officer that was burned alive because a drunk person hit his squad car, trapping him inside. It was so hot in the car that his gun set off and you could hear the bullets exploding, and his screaming since it was too hot for the other officers to get him out. (CT 3rd)
I learned that it's not like the movies were people are really trying hard to get you to drink. If you say no then people will respect you because you have the power to deny alcohol. I also learned what MIP or Minor in Possesion and MIC or Minor in consumption means. [J.S. 4th period]
I learned that as a freshman in highschool, if someone asks you to drink, and you say no, they won't think your weird. They will look up to you as a good example. (ML 8th)
I learned that you can still have fun and go to parties even if you don't drink. I also learned that if you are at a party and there is alcohol there, even if you weren't drinking, you can still get a ticket.
[D.H. 5th extra]
I learned that when you go to a high school party, people arn't gonig to stick a funnel in your mouth and make you drink. You can choose to say NO and nobody would care. They sometimes even respect your decision. I also learned that you should always know when to leave a party. Leave when it is getting out of hand.
(S.K.W. 5th)
I learned that you won't be excluded if you don;t drink or do drugs. You can still be popular and have friends. You just have to know when to leave when things are getting out of hand, and you need to find a safe ride. Drunk driving is a major health threat. I also learned even if there is alcohol at a party and you're not drinking, you can still be fined for being in possetion. (O.M. Period 5)
