The worst part of shopping online is that
if you’re not on a secure site, someone can have access to your credit card

  • what you bought
  • where you bought it
  • what the problem is with the product
  • stating what you want/exchange repair
  • should include receipts and other documents
  • a time limit for the resolution
  • and should contain contact information                                                                                                                                   This would make your complaint more valid and improves your argument for why you want the product exchanged, repaired, compensated, etc. I bought a pair of shoes off of the Nordstrom website and when I received them, they were ripped and scuffed. In my complaint I included my receipt to prove that I had bought the shoes, the date I bought them so they knew I had just received them, I stated my problem with the shoes and where I purchased them, a time limit for the latest that they could contact me before I took any type of legal action, and my contact information so that they could reach me. By including these items in my complaint, I gave the company no excuse for why they could not understand what I wanted, what happened with the shoes, they couldn't question my evidence (receipts, other documents), and they couldn't say they didn't know where to contact me.                The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) [E.W. 5th]

The Air quality standards give people the vital information of what pollutants effect our communities the most today. (Ozone, Particulate matter, Carbon Monoxide, Sulfur Dioxide, and Nitrogen Oxides) It also tells citizens what effects these pollutants can have on people, and there communities. For example, Susie's mom looks at the air quality index to try and find what has been agravating susies asthma, and lerns that particulate matter is probably causing this aggravation, since it is known to agravate asthma. The index also tells citzens what the main sources of these pollutants are, implying the reader to try and cut down on these sources, and encourage others to do the same. For example, Susie's mom reduces her car use  because she knows vehicle exhaust is a source of this pollution, and encourages her friends to do the same for susies sake. [J.Y. 5th]

When the September Eleventh bombing occured in 2000 it left lots of harmful effects. One of the main things left at Ground Zero was hazardous waste, leaving most of the citizens of the north/eastern United States in a clound of harmful noxious fumes. Dust, chemicals, and unclean air filled the people's lungs, making some sick. [M.M.8th]

Question # 49

49.  Give an example of a hazardous waste that permeiated the area in New York around "ground zero" after the 9/11 bombing.

There was lots of particulate matter in the air. In fact, thousands of tons of toxic debris was in the air with more then 2500 contaminates in it. Many of the substances in the air (ex: lead, cadmium, etc.) could deteriorate organs such as the kidney, heart, and liver. Also the air contained lots of glass and other fibers, cellulose, asbestos, lead, and mercury. Many people who breathed in the air (after the EPA incorrectly announced it was safe to go out) got lung diseases and disorders. [E.O 8th]

There was a ton of Radon in the air when the two towers came down. Radon is an odorless, radioactive gas. When the firefighters went in to find servivors, they were breathing in  terrible  toxic wasts in the air. The EPA said that it was ok to go outside when it really wasn't. Alot of people, especially the rescuers, got lung cancer and faced many disorders. [E.A.M 8th]

Question # 50

50.  Give an example of a waste product that is biodegradable.

Biodegradable materials are materials that are able to be broken down by microorganisms in the environment. This means that the waste will decompose and become part of the earth. Some biodegradable materials include paper, food, and lawn wastes. However, if you think you can just throw your trash out of the window, you're wrong. If too much waste is discarded and one time, and nature can't handle the overload, other ways of disposing must be found. This holds true for materials that aren't biodegradable, as well. For example, when my brother and I rake the leaves in our front yard, we bag them in brown, paper bags. The bags and leaves are biodegradable, therefore they will decompose, and become part of the soil. [A.R. 8th]

Paper, food, and wood are examples of a product that is biodegradable, meaning that the waste is able to be broken down by microorganisms in the enviroment.

Many of these biodegradeble materials can be found in landfills all over the states.

                                                                                           [B.S. 8th] [A.R. 8th]

Sidenote: If those products are in large quantities (in landfills), it can be too much for nature to break down because there is little oxygen and moisture in the landfills once they have closed(slowing the process).

                                                                                                                                                                                                  [B.S. 8th]

Question # 51

51.  How does precycling and recycling help us in concerving our natural resources?

Precycling (reducing the amount of waste before it is produced) and recycling (the processing of used materials so that it may be used again) help conserve our natural resources and reduces our reliance on landfills.  Doing things such as purchasing items in bulk and using cloth napkins instead of paper ones are examples of precycling.  Since doing these things reduces the amount you need to buy and therefore the amount that needs to be produced in factories it saves our natural resources.  Things that can be recycled are aluminum, cardboard, glass, plastics, newspapers and glossy papers.  Recycling produces the same results as precycling but through a different way. [A.S. 8th]

{Application] My sister is really big into the saving the enviornment. When she shops she uses cloth shopping bags and she uses cloth diapers when she changes her new baby to precycle. She also recycles newspapers, cardboard, and plastics. [A.T. 8]

Question # 52

52.  What is the difference between precycling and recycling?

Precycling is when you help reduce waste products before it is generated. Recycling is processing of waste materials so they can be used again in a different manner. Both are ways to reduce waste in the environment. People can precycle by using cloth napkins instead of paper napkins or buying things in a large packet instead of indivisual little packets. When you're using cloth napkins you can re-use it instead of using paper napkins and throwing them away. Buying a large packet can also help the earth by not wasting more material for packaging. When you are recycling you should always look out for materials like aluminum, cardboard, glass, plastics, newspapers, and glossy papers to recycle. Recycling is a very easy task that anybody could do. After drinking a can of Coke you can just walk by to the recycling bin and recycle. Always remember that if you do buy bigger packages that they to are recycable so in turn you are doing two things to help the enviorment. Everybody should do simple errands to help make the earth a more healthier place. [C.T. 8th] [L.W. 8th]

Question # 53

 53.  Use the "I statement format" to resolve the following conflict:

A student that sits next to you in class ends up having to ask you to borrow something (paper, pen, pencil, textbooks etc.) everyday in class because they simply do not bring their materials and have come to rely on you.  This behavior is really getting old, and you are starting to resent them for not taking responsibility.  How would you resolve this conflict?

To resolve the conflict I would use an I satement. The I statement that I would use would be "I feel annoyed when everyday I have to lend you my school supplies. I wish that you could remember to bring all of your supplies to class". Hopefully they would listen to what I said and remember to bring their own supplies to class. [P.W. 8th period]

To end this conflict you should use the following I statement or one like it. I feel bad when you keep asking me to borrow supplies for class. It makes me feel that you are slacking off and taking advantage of me. I need you to get your own supplies so that you can be organized and not waste my time during class. [A.W. 8th]

54.  Someone at school is verbally harassing you with sexual statements.  You have used the "I statement format" to verbally ask them to stop.  They do not stop the behavior.  How can you use the "I statement format" as a leagal document to prove that they are harassing you?

You type what they have done to you and print it and sign it. It is now a legal documant wich you must have them sign. If the do not take you seriously and refuse to sign it you do the same thing and sign your document again only this time you go to the priniple and get him or her to sign it. C.W. 8th

acurace-After using the I statment and if it dose not work. You should wright on a pice of paper what the problem is and what you want to be done to solve problem in the I satment format and sighn it and date it. Then have the person who is causing the problem to sighn the pice of paper and date it . make a copie and give it to the person. If still the problem is not solved take teh copei and give it to the admistrater.

aplication- I fell uncomertable when you use sexual statment abought and i need you to stop.

Question # 55

Home
55.  How could you use the "I statement format" to set a "boundary" with a friend when they ask if they can cheat off of you?

If a friend asked to cheat off you, the appropriate phrases to begin the sentence with would be with either "I want" or "I need". An example of what you could do to set a boundary would be to say the following to your friend, "I want you to be able to answer these questions on your own from now on, or otherwise you will not be able to succeed in the future. I need you to stop asking me for all the answers." Using the correct words is very significant in a situation like this, because if you use request words such as wish or hope, your friend may not take what you said very seriously. An example of where this could occur in real life is if I were going to take a college entrance exam and the person sitting next to me whispered, "What's the answer to number 23?", then that would be a time where setting a boundary is necessary. [J.Y. 8th]

Also you would want to say how you feel about your friend asking you to let her cheat off you. For example, you might say, "I feel uncomfortable when you ask me to help you cheat, and I need you not to ask me to cheat." [A.S. 8th extra]

I feel happy when you say that I did a good job playing volleyball last night.

I want you to know how much I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Question # 57

57.  How could you use the "I statement format" to make a request to your parents?

You could say I feel unwanted when you yell at me and tell me that you can't deal with me. I wish you could say it calmly and tell me in a nice way that your busy at that moment.

If you have that temptation to yell and make someone feel bad, think before you say it and always think of the other persons feelings. This falls under the catagory of Interpersonal Skills. Always tell someone how to you feel and clearly say it, use a respectful tone so the other person doesn't feel like they have to yell at you and listen to the other persons promblems and compromise with eachother. Social is talking to your friends and participate in extra curricular ativities like clubs.

Mental is not only doing well in school, but also making real- life decisions.  These everyday decisions can affect you for the rest of youre life, so you have to be careful and considerate in all of your decisions.

Question #2

2.  Give an example of how the three elements of health “inter-relate”.

I think the three elements of health relate to each other when one becomes hurt or more important. An example would be when you mess up in school really badly(mental), which would make you care more about that certain aspect, because it is what you care about more. This will throw off your focus of the other two aspects, in turn hurting them too. In this way when one aspect messes up, both of the other ones mess up too, so that is an example of how they inter-relate. [D.B. and T.B.-1st]

An example would be if you are sociable, talk to more people, and have lots of friends at school you will be emotionally stronger and more confident. Since you are confident and sociable you would try to do more exra-curricular activites such as trying out for a team. Playing football makes you work out and stay fit. When you have confidence in yourself mentally you can go out on the football field and play in front of hundreds of people. Being on a team means you have to communicate with each other. This example uses all of the 3 elements of health; social, mental, and physical. [C.T. 8th EXTRA]

3.Why it is necessary to have a guide to follow when making important decisions.

It is important to have a guide so that you make sure you know what all you options are and you make the choice that is the most responsible so you ar esure that the choice you make can't come back to haunt you in the long run. Also you have planned out how you will respond if someone asks you a question so you make the right choice. (passive, assertive, aggressive, etc.)[M.C,W.C 1st]

If you are making an important decision, it could negatively affect your life if the decision is not thought out well. Having a guide to make sure you thought of all possible outcomes is important so you know you made the right decision.[E.O. 8th EXTRA]

It's important to have steps or a guide to help you make an important dcision because it can help you organize your thoughts more and make you think about the critical parts of the decision making process. For example, if you were trying to make a decison on whether you should smoke or not and didnt consider the major health problems, you would have to face very negative con
