FOOD AND NUTRITION
Why study this?
To know how to take good care of yourself.
You will learn:
- what's good,
- not so good,
- how to make healthy choices.
PROJECTS
My Food Diary (MAJOR GRADE)
You will be keeping a food diary to learn about the foods you eat over a weeks time and the nutrition you get from those foods.
The diary is for your knowledge. You do NOT (and should not necessarily) need to change how you are eating.
Even if you keep your food diary on your phone, it will need to be transferred to paper so you have a copy of it. Remember sometimes things happen to phones that are out of your control. You will have class time each day to transfer your food diary to paper.
Have your food diary in class EACH DAY. That is part of the grade.

Menu Planner (click here)
You will be taken to another page My Pyramid Menu Planner.
Fill out information on left side to get started (weight and height are optional).
After you have entered all of your foods for the four days (both weekend days and 2 weekday days) - you will need to print a WEEKLY MENU that will give you an average of your food consumed (will be turned in along with your evaluation of the project).
Report (tab at top of page)
Weekly Menu
This will show you the page you should print.
You will need to print this, fill it out and turn it in if you have not done so already.
TEST over bookwork (major grade)
You
read some information about food and nutrition and budgeting. Test
will be over that information. We will cover EVERYTHING that will be
on the test on TUESDAY FEBRUARY 22nd.

Nutrition Project (major grade)
Most of our work will be done in class. You might want to get some info together for your food poster project outside of class for your (and your groups) use in class.
We will also be doing some cooking labs in class. This will give you a chance to show me what you can do in a cooking lab. These days you will get a daily group grade based on your ability to follow instructions in the lab, follow a recipe, cleanup after your group, and evaluate your food and work in the lab. Cooking labs will not start until week of March 21st at the very earliest.
