Sewing Project Supplies

DUE TUESDAY NOVEMBER 27, 2007

You have the choice of making pants or shorts

Your SIZE:       SMALL           MEDIUM        LARGE            X-LARGE

You will need to bring:

Fabric

  • You want a cotton or cotton/polyester blend fabric.
      • Solid color or print (school appropriate) your choice!
      • Flannel okay
  • DO NOT GET KNIT, FLEECE, CHENILLE, SILK, OR SILKY FABRIC
      • It is too difficult to sew for a first project.

  • For your project, you will need ONE piece of fabric that is either 45” wide or 60“ wide across the fabric.  If you buy, 2 pieces of fabric, you will have enough fabric to make 2 pairs of pants or shorts – we won’t have that much time.

45” wide                                  yards (this is how long your fabric should be)

60” wide                                   yards (this is how long your fabric should be)

BEFORE  you bring it to class, I recommend you wash and dry your fabric (make sure it is totally dry).  Washing and drying your fabric is called preshrinking.  When you preshrink, you allow yourself to be able to wear the project for a longer period of time becaure you have shrunk your fabric and not your finished project.

Thread

  • to coordinate (match or go with) your fabric
  • suggestions – blue, black, beige, white or your fabric background color
  • goal is to not have thread show on waist or hem sewing

Elastic

  • 1” wide
  • 1 package

Small pair of scissors

  • Do not have to be new
  • Just for cutting small threads

Fabric can be purchased at Jo-Ann’s Fabrics on Mockingbird and Abrams OR Wal-Mart at Spring Valley and Central.  These are closest to us.  There is also a Jo-Ann's Fabrics at Preston and Forest.

If you want to bring your supplies BEFORE Thanksgiving, that is fine with me.  You will have a place in my room where they will be kept.  They must be in class when we start working on projects on Tuesday November 27.
