ABOUT ME
"A teacher affects eternity; she never knows where her influence will stop."
My passion has always been teaching and working with young people. As a life-long learner myself, I enjoy guiding students to make discoveries, consider different perspectives, and grow educationally. Those moments when the proverbial "light bulb" goes off are priceless.
The 2012-2013 school year is my eleventh year of teaching - my third at Highland Park Middle School. I moved to Dallas from San Antonio, where I spent eleven years. After earning a B.A. in English and history from Southwestern University in Georgetown, I went to San Antonio to earn my M.A. at the University of the Incarnate Word. Upon graduating, I was fortunate to begin my teaching career at one of the best middle schools in south Texas. In eight years of teaching there, I taught sixth, seventh , and eighth grades.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with family, especially playing with my three nieces and two nephews, taking my Golden Retriever Sadie for long walks, curling up with a good book - Jane Austen is my favorite author - and traveling as much as I can. I have previously taken student groups to Europe, New York City, and Washington, DC, but I also enjoy exploring the world with friends - Ireland is my favorite country. If you have suggestions for "must see" places, I would love to hear about them!
I look forward to getting to know and working with each of you this year. You are going to have a fantastic 7th grade experience as an HPMS Raider!
