Third Six Weeks

Week One:November 7-11

Monday

Stnd: Work on TKAM Maps. TKAM should be finished by today. Test next Monday. Maps due Tuesday.
TAG: Finish watching TKAM

 Tuesday

Stnd: Begin working on conflict map. Discuss: man v. man, man v. nature. man v. fate, man v. society, man v. self. Use all characters. Work with a partner...talk about it, don't split the work, this is the best way to study for the test. Due Friday.
TAG: Free Reading day?

 Wednesday


Stnd: Work on Conflict Map (use your list of character from your Maycomb Map assignment sheet-see the link for the second six weeks for another copy), work on TKAM Maycomb Map.

TAG: Work on short stories/character Development:

Write a ‘script’ for a news and entertainment channel. Tell the world about your character. Write as if your main character is a real person. Consider them famous….if you want to write about your antagonist you can do that too. Be over the top. The public wants to know! Entertain us. We discussed many other ways to view and complete this assignment...put your own twist on it

 Thursday

Stnd: Continue to work on conflict maps (and Maycomb Maps). Remember, this is meant to help you study for your TKAM test on Monday. Pay attention to the difference between character traits and conflicts. (Due Friday)
TAG: Continue with character development. Possibly read a short story.

November 14-18

TAG: Situational Archetypes.
Stnd: TKAM test

 Tuesday

All: Most students were on a field trip but we did a jumble story.

 Wednesday

TAG: Add to group stories...meld your archetypal characters with the hero's journey.
Stnd: Begin Situational Archetypes

 Thursday

Going to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the Dallas Theater Center
Bring a lunch
Dress up!

 Friday

Career Day. You have a t-shirt to wear.
TAG: Situational Archetypes test on Monday.


Week Three: November 21-25

Character and situational Archetypes.
TAG: Revise short stories. Root/prefix/suffix assignment. Due Wednesday.
Worked in groups on Roots, and in partners for the stories.

 Tuesday

 Stnd: Review for Archetype test. Choose a story and "map" it out using the character
archetypes and situations. Latin Root assignment.
TAG: Short Story revision or Root assignment (choice). Read a short story: "In your Hat" (I can't post it, but have extra copies in class. Annotate: look at irony, description, idiom etc. (literary terms sheet +characterization information)

 Wednesday

Stnd: Finish Roots Assignment. Root test on Monday.
TAG: Roots due today. Discuss. Test tomorrow. Finish "In your Hat"

Thursday

Stnd: Archetype Test.
TAG: Roots Test. Story editing.

Friday

TAG: Revisions due for short stories. You MUST turn in both drafts.
Stnd: Latin Roots due. Test Monday (CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY)

Week Five: December 5-9

Pass out final review.
Stnd:  Review Roots, begin Literary Terms #1
TAG: Discuss outlined essays.Begin Literary Terms #2 (due Wednesday), descriptive writing assignment.

Stnd: Read a short story. "The Pie" Work on Literary Terms.
TAG: Read a short story TAG: Read a short story. TAG: Read a short story
Read "Fear".Work on literary terms. Work on personal short story.
                      Read and discuss "Shame"

Wednesday

Stnd: Roots test today (moved in back). Literary Terms #1 due. Go over.
TAG: Read a short story.
"Shame" Literary Terms #2 due today.

Thursday

Stnd: Read "Priscilla and the Wimps" Use your literary terms to analyze and annotate the story. Discuss theme.
TAG:
Use your literary terms (#1 and #2) to analyze and annotate "Shame". Think about techniques (from all of the short stories) that you can use in your own story. Work on personal stories. First Round of "official editing" is due Monday. This draft is 25% of your final exam. Editing Rubric (this is a different grade).

Friday

Stnd: Two stories will go home for you to annotate. Be sure to write a theme for each. We will discuss Monday, essay Tuesday (part of your final exam).
TAG: Work on your short stories. Don't forget to use you journals to look at the methods other authors use to integrate description, dialogue, thoughts, emotions, etc.
Stories: Excerpt from Tom Sawyer, "Charles", "The Pie", "Priscilla and the Wimps", "In your Hat", "Fear", "Shame", TKAM




Week Six: December 12-16

 Monday

Final Exam Review
Stnd: Annotated short stories due today. We will discuss theme, and go over how to write a detailed paragraph. Essay will be in class tomorrow. You may use the stories and any notes you take on them in class.
TAG: Short Story Due. We will do technical editing in January. Begin thinking of a Holocaust-related book you would like to read in addition to Night. I will have a list for you to choose from, but am willing to take suggestions!

Final Exam Review
Stnd: In class essay.
TAG: Archetype section of final exam.

 Wednesday

Final Exam Review
Stnd: Archetype section of the final exam.
TAG: Share short stories with someone who hasn't heard it yet. This will be casual. I'll answer any last minute questions about the final.
4th period Final

1st, 3rd, 5th Finals

 Friday
