Week Six:

Monday:

First: Read excerpt from Bootcamp. Look at scene structure: dialogue, visuals, and thoughts. Discuss the elements of a short story (background, conflict, tension, climax/do-or-die moment, resolution, character growth, hard choices etc.). Talk through short stories with a partner to make sure you are hitting all main points.

Second-Sixth: Read: Priscilla and the Wimps. Look at short story stucture: break it down: background, conflict, tension, climax, resolution. Work on characters: due tomorrow.

Tuesday:

First: Finish talking through short stories. Choose from a list of writing assigments designed to help develop character and plot. Due tomorrow.

Second-Sixth: Work on character. Writing assigment.

Wednesday:

First: Read: In your Hat and "answer questions". Work on short stories.

Second-Sixth: Read/finish TKAM (finish it by TOMORROW).

Thursday:

All: vocabulary quiz.

Friday:

All: Free Reading.

Week Five:

Monday-

First Period: Discuss Character. HW: have your character ready to place in a scene

2nd-6th: Worked on mood/setting/prove its. Read TKAM (hw...by Thursday be to the end of ch. 27)

Tuesday-

First: Discussed Scenes. Scene Possibilities. Scene Notes. Jumble Story (for fun-if needed). HW: Work for 20 minutes on your scene.

2nd6th: Discussed Character, what we need to know, and what makes us believe in them. 2nd Period List HW: Work on Character for 20 minutes

Wednesday:

First: Continue on scenes, vocab

2nd-6th: Vocab. Pick four random numbers. Look at your jumble story. Write :) HW: Work for either ten more minutes on your character, or ten more minutes on your jumble story.

All: Vocab (see daily openings...October 28th to find your vocab words). The quiz is next Thursday.  If you do your cards by Wednesday, you'll get five bonus points on the quiz!

Thursday

First: Continue to work on your scene.

2nd-6th: Work on characters. Read: Priscilla and the Wimps: a short story to look at character and story structure.

Friday

All: Free Reading, first: Tell Tale Heart

Week Four:

Monday:

First Period: Characters

Second-Sixth: Showing v. Telling

Tuesday

First Period: Characters and song lyrics

Second-Sixth: Showing v. Telling, possible movie clip

Wednesday:

First Period: Characters and setting

Second-Sixth: Picture Slide Show/writing assignment

Thursday

First Period: Discussed our favorite characters. Who are they? What are they like? Why do we like them? How did the author develop them? Homework: Bring in an excerpt to illustrate how your character was "created".

Second-Sixth: Work on setting/mood description Homework: pick a photo (see above), write for 15 min. Develop mood/setting-we will share tomorrow.

Week Three:

Monday: No school!

Tuesday:

First: Read Shame by Dick Gregory. Discuss character and figurative language

Second-Sixth: Figurative Language Powerpoint.

All: Vocab test Thursday.

Wednesday

First: Discuss song lyrics, Talk Character, begin creating characters

Second-Sixth: Finish notes on figurative language. Begin activity. HW: read to the end of chapter 26 for Monday

All: Vocab test tomorrow.

Thursday

First: Continue with character

Second-Sixth: Continue with Figurative Language. Read TKAM

All: Vocab Test

Friday

All: Free Reading

Week Two:

Monday:

First-Figurative Language Cards. Began the photo show for brainstorming.

Second-Sixth-Work on the t-chart with Bob, Tom, Atticus, and Mayella. Find quotes from the book (ch.17-19) with page numbers, and write what we learn about their character from this evidence.

Tuesday:

First-Finish Slide Show. Homework: Pic a photo and "show/prove" the mood of the scene, what it looks like, what's happening etc. Use figurative language and imagry. For those of you who picked a partner to compete with: we will share and vote tomorrow. Good luck!

Second-Sixth: Begin discussing characterization. DIRECT, INDIRECT, INTERNAL, EXTERNAL. Began character "books". As a class brainstorm for Dolphus Raymond. I read the beginning of chapter 20 to help with this character. Homework: Read to the end of chapter 23 for tomorrow. Second period: charcter book for you. Fourth-Sixth: Finish character book for Dolphus.

Wednesday:

ALL: Bring VOCAB BOOKS

First: Share passages written for homework. Vocabulary.

Second-Sixth: Continue discussing character.

Thursday:

First: Continue descriptive writing. Depending on time: mimic another author's style. Bring a free reading book.

Second-Sixth: Begin Figurative language.

Friday:

ALL: FREE READING FRIDAY. DUE: AN HOUR OF READING.
