Tuesday
- Discuss "In Your Hat"
- Share homework
- Work on scenes, check dialogue, flow, spelling, POV
- Brainstorm: Writing Territories
- Homework: Put your character in one of your territories. Write for 15 min.
Wednesday
ALL CLASSES: Double check your scenes to make sure your POV is consistent throughout the story. Also, check your dialogue punctuation, make sure it's correct. Under the link for the second six weeks is the powerpoint with the dialogue rules (if you need it). In the next few days all of you will have done this, revised the word "said" and added action. You will also add figurative language and a prove it. This is all part of the revising process. If you don't want to use your scene for your short story, I'm ok with that! Just use this as a model for later. MONDAY we will also begin to map out your short story ideas for your writing.
- Each class is in a slightly different phase of the short story writing process
- 1st and 2nd: Homework: continue to add to your writing from today. Reminder: take a territory, throw your character in for yourself, and change some other things up about the story. Write for 5-10 min. When we meet next we will be looking at figurative language, and getting rid of the word "said". See 3rd and 4th period.
- 3rd: Add more figurative language to your scenes. Do at least one "prove it", and put in similes, metaphors, and personification. When we meet next we will be getting rid of the word "said".
- 4th: You have two things to do. 1. Add between 5-10 "events" for your writing territories. We will share them in class, and then you will write about one (see homework for 1st and 2nd). 2. Make sure you got rid of the word, said. Remember, "said is dead". Also, add some actions to the "tag" what is your speaker doing as they talk? Think about in class today, and narrating people's actions! I'll try to make that something we can do next week. Fun :)
